Trending on Amazon is a real signal, but it\'s not a simple one. Amazon\'s "trending" and "bestseller" badges reflect recent sales velocity -- something spiking in orders over a short window. That can mean a product genuinely went viral because it works. It can also mean a brand ran a heavy coupon campaign, stacked an influencer deal on top of it, and is now coasting on the badge. The badge doesn\'t tell you which one it is.

How I sort it out: look at the review history. A product with 400 reviews that all landed in the last 60 days is a red flag. A product with 4,000 reviews spread over two years and a recent sales spike is probably the real thing. ReviewMeta and Fakespot can give you a quick read on review authenticity.

The other thing about trending items: prices are often elevated while they\'re hot. If something is genuinely going viral, waiting two weeks sometimes means paying 20% less once the initial frenzy cools. Trending doesn\'t mean urgent, and it definitely doesn\'t mean cheapest.
